Destination – What is It All About?

Tourism has become a part of everyday life for people all over the world. Whether it is the experience of visiting a new place, or simply the changing face of a destination, for some people, this is a once in a lifetime trip. It is something that brings people from all walks of life together, touching their hearts with every breath that they take. However, what most people fail to realize or forget completely, is that every destination is unique and offers something that cannot be found anywhere else. In order for a destination to be considered as such, certain criteria must be met for it to truly be called a destination.

Destination

Some academics view tourism as merely the act of traveling away from one’s home, and the various activities undertaken in the chosen destination, and the infrastructure designed to accommodate the visitors needs, during their stay at the final destination. Others, however, view destination as a place where the visitor can experience the culture and the history of the place, and some even go as far as to define a destination as a cultural crossroads. A third group of people view a destination like a paradise on earth, filled not only with sightseeing spots but also with natural resources, great food, and top notch accommodation – all focused towards making the visitor feel like he/she is really at home. To sum up, different people have different perceptions on what a final destination is supposed to offer, but whatever a destination brings to a traveler’s doorstep, no matter how small or big, it should always be seen as a once in a lifetime experience.

Tourism development takes place across different destinations in different parts of the world. There are hundreds of planned and unplanned destinations around the world, and tourists can choose from a variety of tourism development projects based on their preferences. Some of the destinations that receive the most tourist traffic are Egypt, South America, Turkey, Israel and China. In recent years, Turkey and Israel have gained a lot of popularity as destination options due to their wonderful package deals that combine national identity and tourism.
